Making his debut for Everton when he was 16 years old, Wayne Rooney was becoming an Everton favorite. Little did he know that he would soon be the hope for all of England, after representing his country.

On the fateful Saturday afternoon, October 19th, 2001, Wayne Rooney came on for Radzinski in the 80th minute against Arsenal. 10 minutes on the field, Rooney put in the winning goal to beat Arsenal 2-1.

Wayne Rooney's hefty build contrasts with derby rival Michael Owen, but both complement each others game to make England one of the most formidable offences in the world.

Rooney is now a household name in England, aptly nicknamed "Roonaldo" among other names, and is the youngest scorer for England at 17 years and 317 days.

In Euro 2004, Wayne Rooney struck in his second game becoming the youngest goal scorer in the European Championship. However that record didn't last long as it was broken in that same tournament. His campaign in Euro 2004 was short lived as he got injured against Portugal and had to come off early in the first half. He ended with four goals and one assist in four games, and was named as part of the All Star Squad.

After the Euro 2004, Rooney came under the spotlight, not for just his affairs in the previous years, but also because of the demand for Rooney by Newcastle and Manchester United. Manchester United, hated by Everton fans, won the bidding, leading to a "Hate Rooney" campaign. Rooney was sold for 25 million pounds, even though he was injured and just 18 years old. Rooney had earlier refused to accept a £50,000 a week salary by Everton for the next 5 years.

Rooney made his debut for Manchester United against Febernahce, and scores two quick, powerfully hit goals in the first half, and a superb curling free-kick in the second half as United romped to a 6-2 victory. Ever since then he has been an ever present force for the United squad, especially in the Manchester United - Arsenal game which broke Arsenal's Premiership winning streak.

Rooney ended a disappointing debut season with Manchester United finishing third in the league, despite scoring 17 goals for the club, the highest amongst his teammates.
